Vacation at the Lake

Every year we try to carve out a week for a family vacation - usually at the end of the summer once everyone else has gone back to school.

There's a little out-of-the-way place we like to go to in Michigan which holds childhood memories for my husband and has quickly become a spot our own boys love.

This year we had the place all to ourselves since we went a little later than usual.  The weather wasn't quite as nice as it has been when we travel a few weeks earlier, but we still had plenty of peace, quiet and getting gloriously dirty playing in the sand.  And chilly weather does not deter little (and not-so-little) boys from wanting ice cream...

Of course there was plenty of time spent boating and fishing...

Matthew was super-excited to put his boat (built with his dad) in the water.

More digging in the sand...

Lots of digging in the sand...

All-in-all it was a relaxing week - my boys took good care of me since I was still recovering from surgery. Getting away from the every day work, chores, schooling, etc... and spending time together as a family is always therapeutic as well as a perfect way to transition into a new school year.
